After SPM, what's next? For me, I would suggest you for a break of course!!! (If you can afford it) Try traveling with friends around the country like Penang etc. I think this could be a way of rewarding yourself for such a "hardworking" you for the past 1 month. Furthermore, it will really be your last fellowship with your gang as you will meet each other lesser and lesser as the time goes by. You may also go for some beneficial camps to motivate or to learn something new, touching up some old/new soft skills maybe?
Breaking for awhile doesn't mean a long life stop. After your relaxation, I guess it's time to think about your future. So having any idea on your future career? Nope? Well, honestly, you still have time, but if you have set it, it will probably make the road clearer. Id you don't, take your time. Here are some suggestions from me.
If you planned to study overseas (not advisable for those who wanted to be doctor), you may try A levels or Form 6. Both certs are usable out of the country, including Singapore. If you didn't plan to, you can try foundation studies.
For me, I would choose Matriculation. Matriculation is a programme set mainly for bumiputras, but there are some quotas that non-bumiputras to enter. (I get offered here) Matriculation is a 1 year programme (for non-bumiputras) while 1 or 2 years programme for bumiputras. Entering Matriculation makes you easier to enter local public universities. Why? You'll get CGPA 4.0 easily (as long as you work hard, revising, finishing all tutorials) and by comparing to Form 6, you get Co-Curriculum marks very easily. Joining activities or competitions within the college(mini-KAKOM and others) is counted as state level while for inter-college sports competition(KAKOM), you are getting national marks! I believe you know this difference between Form 6, and Form 6 students always envy on us Matriculation students.
For Form 6, it takes you 2 years period to complete your Pre-U. For Matriculation, the government is sponsoring you about rm250 per month (I'm not sure about the latest one) and the fees to study is very cheap too. Hence, this advantage has make me choose Matriculation rather than foundation studies in private institutions. I realized that you can try to apply foundation studies on local public universities such as UM, UKM and UPM. They do offer you foundation studies, but it would also be competitive to enter it.
To enter Matriculation, you need to buy a pin code from BSN which costs you around RM6+/- and you need to register yourself in the Matriculation website. Furthermore, do remember to buy pin code for UPU, a system used to apply for local public universities.
If you get Matriculation, congrats to you! You are really lucky enough; if you don't, try to appeal for it! There are still chances! Reminder for you guys, the cert for Matriculation can only be used within local public universities and MOST of the public institutions.
So, which path did I went to? Matriculation. I have no regrets in entering it as a Chinese guy from a Chinese school started to expose myself to other races, it's really a good experience. Besides that, I have higher hope in entering a local public university to pursue my studies in medicine. If you get medicine in local public universities, you will save your parents a lot of money! That's why everyone wanted to enter it!
This is my suggestion on where to go after SPM. Feel free to comment if you have any questions. I'm sorry that I'm not familiar with diploma, and hence can't give you informations about it.
Thanks! See you again!
